GOAL 5: Responsive and Accountable Government and Effective Public Services

SUMMARY

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Buckeye Police Department (“BPD”) submitted a Crime Victim Assistance Program grant application to the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) to support partial funding to hire a Victim Advocate. If an award is received, the grant will provide funding to hire a Victim Advocate to support programs and services which will provide a full range of direct services to victims of crime. Grant funding, in the requested amount of $32,000, will cover half the cost of a Victim Advocate position for a one year period beginning July 1, 2018. Matching funds from the City of Buckeye will cover the portion of salary not covered by the ACJC Crime Victim Assistance Grant Program.

BENEFITS:

The ACJC Crime Victim Assistance Program grant funding will provide salary and benefits support for a Victim Advocate hired through the grant. Hiring the advocate will allow BPD to enhance the services currently provided to victims of crime within our community.

FUTURE ACTION: Council and staff; does this need to be communicated internally/externally?

Resolution No. 27-18 will ratify the submission of the grant application, accept the grant award and authorize the execution of the grant agreement. The Police Department’s Grant Programs Administrator will ensure that all required documentation is submitted within the established deadlines and that the grant award is managed in accordance with the terms set forth in grant agreement.

FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT: Must be completed before submission

Funding of the grant award by ACJC will be reimbursed to the City of Buckeye Police Department. The anticipated amount of the award will be approximately $32,000 over the one year period of performance for the grant.
