ACTION / MOTION: (This language identifies the formal motion to be made by the Council)

Council to take action on Resolution No. 28-18 approving the Grant Agreement between the City of Buckeye and the City of Tucson relating to funding the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Maricopa County Drug Suppression Task Force; accepting the resulting Grant; and authorizing the Mayor, City Manager and Police Department Chief to execute and deliver said Agreement and related documents on behalf of the City.

SUMMARY

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 

The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program provides assistance to federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies operating in areas determined to be critical drug-trafficking regions of the United States. HIDTA activities include: enforcement initiatives comprising multi-agency investigative, interdiction, and prosecution activities; intelligence and information sharing initiatives; and drug use prevention and drug treatment initiatives. Buckeye is an active partner and has an officer assigned to the HIDTA Maricopa County Drug Suppression Task Force. The Buckeye Police Detective assigned to this task force will assist in the investigation of criminal organizations that operate drug labs and/or distribute narcotics within the State of Arizona.


BENEFITS:

The grant will provide overtime funding and equipment for the officer assigned to the Task Force and the funds will be reimbursed to the City of Buckeye Police Department once the documentation detailing work on the Task Force and proof of equipment purchase has been submitted.


FUTURE ACTION: Council and staff; does this need to be communicated internally/externally?

If Council approves Resolution 26-18, the appropriate signatures will be obtained and the grant contract will be sent to the City of Tucson for final signature resulting in full execution of the agreement.


FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT: Must be completed before submission

The City of Tucson will reimburse overtime expenses incurred by the officer assisting in the investigation of criminal organizations that operate drug labs and/or distribute narcotics within the State of Arizona.
