Council to take action on Resolution No. 46-18 ratifying the submission of a grant application to the U.S. Department Of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime FY 2018 Law Enforcement-Based Direct Victim Services and Technical Assistance Program Grant for funding to support the employment of a victim advocate and a victim services administrative assistant; accepting the resulting grant agreement; and authorizing the City Manager and Police Department Chief to execute and deliver the resulting grant agreement on behalf of the City.

SUMMARY

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 

The Police Department submitted a grant application to OVC for funding to support victims’ rights programs and services mainly two positions. If an award is received, the grant will provide funding to support positions  for the victim rights program. The funds will establish a source for funding a Victim Advocate and Victim Advocate Assistant.



BENEFITS:
The grant funds will establish and enhance the ability to provide much needed resources and a point of contact for victim of crime within the City of Buckeye. The quality of justice through the adoption or modification of policies and procedures that provide for implementation of criminal and juvenile victims’ rights laws will be enhanced.


FUTURE ACTION: Council and staff; does this need to be communicated internally/externally?

Resolution No. 46-18 will ratify the submission of the grant application, accept the grant award and authorize the execution of the grant agreement. The Police Department’s Grant Programs Administrator will ensure that all required documentation is submitted within the established deadlines and that the grant award is managed in accordance with the terms set forth in grant agreement.



FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT: Must be completed before submission
Funding awarded by the DOJ OVC will be reimbursed to the City of Buckeye for the two positions over a three year period. The total requested amount of grant funding is $414,216.
